For four days, from April 16 to 19, the city of Igualada has been the epicenter of performing arts, hosting 41 street and indoor shows. The event attracted 14,600 attendees, with an equal distribution of 7,400 spectators for indoor shows and 7,400 for street performances.
“"We have captured a very positive general sentiment regarding the programming and the experience, both for the people of the city and for international programmers."
The program was diverse and transversal, featuring 114 performances by 39 companies, of which 27 were from Catalonia, 8 from Spain, and 4 international, from Italy, Belgium, Canada, and Uruguay. The closing day included circus acts such as CLAM, by the company Fèmut, and Fe de rutes, by clown Toti Toronell, culminating with the show Xiulaland, by the company Xiula.
In the professional sphere, Mostra PRO Catalan Arts brought together 1,034 professionals from 417 entities in the sector, including 345 Catalan, 44 Spanish, and 28 international. These professionals came from countries such as Finland, Belgium, Turkey, the Netherlands, Canada, Portugal, Denmark, Lithuania, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, China, France, Croatia, Germany, and Mexico. Professional activities were concentrated at La Llotja, with a dozen initiatives to foster contact between artists and programmers.
“"The data and programming can be more or less relative. The feeling of such a common general experience is what I would like to match."
After a very positive assessment of his first year at the helm, the artistic director aims to maintain the positive sentiment in future editions, as well as to expand programming and support the sector. He also advocated for the importance of performing arts in the streets, arguing that they should not be exclusive to festivals and fairs, but should reclaim public spaces to become a popular expression that transcends tradition and folklore.
