Mayor Pere Vernet formalized the signing using the 210,000 euro subsidy granted by the Ministry of Finance in 2023. The total price of the property, set at 253,697 euros since 2008, leaves a difference of 43,697 euros that the City Council can pay in deferred installments, with interest not lower than the legal interest rate.
Once the deed has been signed, the only pending procedure is the final approval from the State Government, which is expected shortly to formalize the municipal ownership of the building.
The next step, once state approval is obtained, will be the demolition of the barracks to build new community facilities. According to the Local Housing Plan, the plan is to allocate the upper floor to housing for young people and the elderly, and the lower floor to a Day Center that will complement the services offered by the Casa dels Avis.
The purchase process has accelerated significantly in recent years due to security issues arising from the occupation of the barracks, which began in 2022, subsequent conflicts, and the eviction and boarding up of the building carried out in 2024.
