The composer from Igualada, Jaume Padrós i Montoriol (1926-2007), will be honored with an ambitious project seeking to reclaim his figure as one of the most unique in 20th-century Catalan music. The centenary celebration takes place in 2026.
Although born in Igualada, Padrós spent a crucial part of his career in Germany, where he served as a prestigious educator at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik de Trossingen for over three decades. His work is noted for its pioneering treatment of the accordion, integrating it into classical and contemporary ensembles.
The goal is to give visibility to a work that combines tradition and modernity, highlighting the figure of a composer who brought Catalan music and the accordion to international recognition.
The competition, organized by Acord Edicions and the Mixtur Festival, is divided into two modalities. Modality A, for Commissioned Work, will select a composer to create a new piece, offering a prize of 2,000 euros, the official premiere at the Mixtur Festival 2026, and subsequent publication of the score.
Modality B rewards existing works for accordion (soloist or in chamber formation with soprano, cello, or flute). The winner will receive 800 euros, a performance at the Mixtur Festival, and the editing and commercialization of the work.
