The Cinema Ateneu of Igualada hosted the presentation of the comic 'My Way', a project to raise awareness among adolescents about mental health and the risks of drug consumption.

The 'My Way' project, driven by the Primary and Community Care Management Penedès of the Catalan Health Institute and the Department of Education, with the collaboration of the Igualada City Council, was officially presented this Tuesday. The initiative uses the comic format, based on a true story, to address complex issues such as addictions, mental health disorders, personal relationships, and the importance of seeking help.
The proposal is complemented by a didactic guide and activities designed to foster reflection and classroom debate, as well as to raise awareness of available support resources for young people. The event was attended by institutional representatives, educational centers, health and social service professionals, as well as families and participants in the project's development.
The councilor for Public Health of the Igualada City Council, Carme Riera, highlighted the shared dimension of the project and the involvement of various stakeholders, emphasizing that the combination of perspectives allows for a transversal approach to reach adolescents. She underscored the power of the true story told in the first person, particularly thanking Alexis for his generosity in sharing his personal experience and transforming a difficult experience into an opportunity for awareness.
Riera also positively valued the work of professionals from the Catalan Health Institute, the Department of Education, and the Public Health team of the Igualada City Council, who identified the story's educational potential. She noted that the project represents a valuable educational opportunity and a powerful tool for fostering reflection and promoting health among adolescents.
The initiative highlights the collaborative work between the health, education, and social rights sectors. The project has already been successfully piloted in several high schools in Igualada, receiving positive feedback from students and improving knowledge about the link between drug use and mental health. The initiators now aim to extend it to educational centers in Garraf, Penedès, Anoia, and subsequently, throughout Catalonia.
The Primary and Community Care Management Penedès, part of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) Penedès, is a cornerstone of the public health system, offering comprehensive care, health promotion, and prevention. This activity is carried out by over 1,175 professionals across 21 primary care teams and 9 support care units, serving 60 municipalities in the Alt Penedès, Garraf, and Anoia regions. GAPiC collaborates with hospitals and social agents to ensure optimal care.
