The 50th Amateur Theatre Contest Villa de Piera will bring together nine companies between October 3rd and November 28th. The celebration will culminate on January 16th, 2027, with an awards ceremony, a gala, and a commemorative dinner at the Teatre Foment.
Since its inception in 1975, the event has established itself as a significant cultural fixture in Piera. This special edition commemorates half a century of history, remembering all the individuals and companies that have been part of it.
The response to this edition has been record-breaking, with nine companies selected from over 75 proposals received from various autonomous communities such as Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Aragon, Madrid, and Murcia.
The program will begin on October 3rd with Esperant Godot, by Pierrot Teatre from Centelles, followed by La tempesta continua, by La Barraca from San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia), on October 10th.
Performances will continue on October 17th with La gata sobre la teulada de zinc, by Enric Borràs from the Sant Feliu de Llobregat Parish Centre, and on October 24th with Rita, by the Cornellà Theatre Collective. October will conclude on the 31st with Un cel de plom, by the Mataró Qteatre Group.
Throughout November, audiences can see Làponia, by Cia. A Kop de Kap from Canet de Mar (November 7th); La nau dels bojos, by the Capellades Theatre Group (November 14th); L’hostalera, by Gènesis Teatre from Fraga's Penya Fragatina (November 21st), and Un estrany visitant, by Pierrot Teatre from Centelles (November 28th).
The 50th edition highlights the contest's long-standing relationship with the Teatre Foment, the venue that has hosted all editions since 1975, except during renovation works in 2011. The theatre is currently municipally owned.
The culminating event on January 16th, 2027, will include the awards ceremony, a gala, and a commemorative dinner to celebrate the contest's 50th anniversary.
The event will maintain its usual recognitions, including awards for best production, direction, actors, actress, and the audience choice award.
Tickets for the gala dinner, priced at 25 euros, will be available at the Teatre Foment box office starting October 3rd.
The celebration is organized by the Organizing Committee of the Amateur Theatre Contest Villa de Piera, in collaboration with the Culture Department of the Piera City Council.
This cultural initiative looks forward to half a century of amateur theatre in Piera, recognizing the work of the individuals and companies that have made the event possible.
