The Department of Urban Agenda of the Conselh Generau d’Aran has announced the completion of the conditioning works for the section between the Pont deth Lop and the Pont de Hèr, on the Regodèr path. This action allows the third phase of the Transgarona project execution to be concluded.
This new section has been adapted for cycling and is suitable for gravel bikes and BTT, extending a safe and high-quality route that allows citizens and visitors to travel many kilometers through the heart of the Valley, following the course of the Garona river. With this addition, four out of the five planned phases of the project are now completed.
The cycling route reaches the vicinity of the Pont dera Lana in Les, forming a highly attractive itinerary from both a tourist and sporting perspective. The Transgarona project aims to highlight the Garona as a central axis of the territory and to consolidate cross-border cooperation with neighboring regions in southern Comenge. In the future, this connection will allow linking with the French cycling network and reaching Toulouse.
The fourth phase of the project, corresponding to the section between the Pont dera Lana and the Casino de Pònt de Rei, approximately 3.5 kilometers long, is yet to be completed. Until this section is executed, cyclists can temporarily use the shoulder of the N-230 road to Pònt de Rei, where they can resume the fifth phase of the cycling path to the French border, connecting with the French Transgarona path.
The Conselh Generau d’Aran maintains its commitment to the project's completion. In recent months, efforts have been intensified to secure new funding, both at the state and regional levels. In this regard, the incorporation of the fourth phase into the network of Natural and Green Paths of the Ministry of Agriculture has been requested, and simultaneously, work is being done with the General Directorate of Territory to integrate it into future path and trail programs.
“"The Transgarona is much more than a cycling path. It is a strategic project that combines sustainable mobility, tourism, sport, economic development, and cross-border cooperation, and it constitutes one of the priorities of the Conselh Generau d’Aran."
