The Vielha e Mijaran Town Council has opened a public participation period to draft the 2025-2028 Local Road Safety Plan, focusing on protecting vulnerable road users.

The local government has set a 20-day window, ending on March 26, for citizens to submit their input through an online survey. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to update municipal mobility tools and address recent changes in local traffic patterns.
A key objective of the plan is to reach Vision Zero, aiming for no fatalities or serious injuries on local roads. The council specifically targets a 20% reduction in urban accidents by 2028 compared to the average recorded between 2020 and 2023.

"We want this Local Road Safety Plan to be the result of dialogue and citizen participation. Vielha is a very busy town, especially in winter and summer."

Juan Antonio Serrano · Mayor of Vielha e Mijaran
The strategy includes the City 30 project, which focuses on traffic calming near schools such as Escòla Garona and Institut d'Aran. Measures will include improving pedestrian crossings, enhancing visibility, and increasing preventive police controls to ensure a safer environment for all.
