The Civil Guard reminds drivers of basic roundabout rules across Spain, warning that exiting from an inner lane can lead to fines of up to 500 euros and the loss of 6 license points.

The Civil Guard, responsible for road safety on Spain's highways, has highlighted one of the most common and dangerous infractions: exiting a roundabout from an inner lane. This maneuver, performed daily by thousands of drivers, significantly increases the risk of collision and is closely monitored by traffic agents.

Between 2015 and 2019, 45,000 accidents with victims were registered at rotary intersections, resulting in 317 deaths and over 58,000 injured people of various degrees.

To prevent accidents and ensure traffic flow, the Civil Guard emphasizes three basic rules. It is mandatory to always use indicators to signal any lane change or exit, and drivers must exit the roundabout exclusively from the right lane, positioning themselves in advance. Priority must also be given to the vehicle already circulating inside the roundabout.
The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) reminds that, in addition to the 200-euro fine for changing lanes without signaling, speeding or failing to yield to a cyclist can result in a penalty of 500 euros and the loss of 6 license points. Entering the roundabout without respecting the priority of other vehicles incurs a 200-euro fine and 4 points.
