The comprehensive renovation of the north and west wings of the third floor of the former Sant Ignasi College in Manresa has provided the Baroque Museum with 800 additional square meters for storage and technical spaces. This first phase, which concluded last December, cost 1,040,884 euros, financed by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat and Next Generation funds.
“"Essential."
The Mayor of Manresa, Marc Aloy, visited the space today, highlighting its importance for housing and preserving the museum's collection, which includes about 1,800 works from the modern era, mainly Baroque and some Renaissance pieces, dating from the 16th century to the beginning of the 19th century, as explained by Anna Comas, museum technician.
The next action, currently in the bidding phase, will focus on “dressing” the space with specialized technical furniture, with a budget of 892,853 euros. This second phase is expected to be completed and operational during 2026, including the renovation of the gutters on the east wing of the building.
The reserve area will feature systems such as compact mobile racks for two-dimensional works, palletized shelving for large volume pieces, and humidity-controlled display cases for metal objects. In addition to the reserve, architect David Closes explained that offices, management spaces, and areas for the treatment and disinfection of heritage pieces have also been enabled.
