Spokespersons for the prison centers section of the General Union of Workers (UGTPresons) have spoken out against the management of the Lledoners facility, located in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, accusing it of granting "cigarettes, televisions, and telephone calls" to the "most conflictive and dangerous" inmates in closed regime. This practice, according to the officials, is intended solely to "avoid incidents".
UGTPresons insists that the most appropriate measure is the rigorous application of the Prison Regulations, rejecting any other type of concession, especially if it is done "at the expense of the Administration". The union has warned that they will "stand up before it is too late and we have to regret worse incidents".
Enough of applying soft policies in high-risk situations!
This complaint follows a serious incident last weekend where a worker had to be urgently transferred to the hospital after being injured. The official was trapped between a wall and a door while attempting to remove an inmate who had set fire to his cell.
Given the repetition of such incidents, UGTPresons urgently demands the acquisition of a "hydraulic separating clamp" to avoid relying on the arrival of the Firefighters. They also request modern smoke extractors for each wing, as the current portable equipment is "obsolete", and demand to know the results of the Psychosocial Risk Assessment carried out in March 2025.
