The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat, Alícia Romero, has initiated a series of meetings with economic and social agents to defend the new funding model agreed upon by the Government and ERC. This Thursday, the tour begins in Manresa, at the Fundació Althaia, accompanied by the Secretary of Local Governments, Xavier Amor, and the territorial delegate, Èlia Tortolero.
The route will continue on Friday in Girona, where Romero will be joined by the Government delegate, Xavier Guitart. The sessions include an initial presentation open to the public, followed by a closed-door meeting with institutional representatives and key civil society actors.
“"It is important that everyone knows the funding model and its positive elements: it is a more transparent, more egalitarian model that complies with the principle of ordinality."
The new model, the result of a three-way agreement, still faces uncertainties regarding its path through the Congress. Currently, it does not have the necessary votes, as the opposition includes the PP, Vox, and Junts. With these meetings, Romero seeks to forge broad consensus in Catalonia to facilitate subsequent approval.
This search for support comes at a delicate time for the Government, marked by the continued chaos in Rodalies (commuter rail) and the uncertainty surrounding the approval of the Catalan budgets for 2026. Negotiations with ERC are stalled, as Oriol Junqueras' party demands the explicit commitment of the PSOE to allow Catalonia to collect income tax (IRPF) before sitting down to negotiate.
“"Goodwill is not enough."
