The director of the Catalan Traffic Service, Ramon Lamiel, announced on Thursday that the southbound closure of the AP-7 motorway between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia will be extended until at least Saturday following the embankment collapse in Gelida.

The disruption affects the section where the embankment collapsed, which also caused the fatal train accident in Gelida. Lamiel made the announcement on Catalunya Ràdio, stressing that the interruption, initially expected to last hours, has turned into a closure of several days.

"What was a closure of hours that we already said would turn into a closure of days, we continue to think will be a closure of days."

To determine traffic solutions and the scope of repairs, the Government has scheduled a joint visit to the affected section with traffic officials on Saturday afternoon. This meeting is key to assessing whether a viable short-term traffic solution exists.
Lamiel expressed hope that "updates can be provided" after the Saturday visit, but insisted that the situation requires a thorough assessment before restoring normalcy on the motorway.
