Councillor Jesús Alonso anticipates 20 years for Manresa's Historic Center rehabilitation

The 25 million euro investment from the Neighborhood Plan, funded by the Generalitat and the City Council, requires private sector involvement.

The Councillor for Housing in Manresa, Jesús Alonso, estimated during the last municipal plenary session that the full recovery of the Historic Center could take up to 20 years, despite the 25 million euro investment.

The rehabilitation of the Historic Center of Manresa, long considered a pending issue, will receive a significant boost thanks to the approval of a Neighborhood Plan (Pla de Barris). This initiative involves an investment of 25 million euros over the coming years, financed equally by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Manresa City Council.

"we might take 20 years to see the Historic Center recovered"

Alonso's statement was made during the debate on a motion by Fem Manresa regarding real estate speculation. Alonso stressed that the public investment effort must be placed in a “public-private context,” as the participation of private owners is “essential” to drive investments in housing rehabilitation and business openings.
This 20-year estimate contrasts with a previous publication by Impulsem Manresa, which set the rehabilitation goal between six and twelve years (achievable between 2030 and 2036). The problem is exacerbated by the aging housing stock: over 67% of the city's buildings predate the year 2000, and 40% of homes older than 35 years have not undergone any rehabilitation intervention.
