Actress Emilia Guiu Estivilla, born in Manresa on March 21, 1922, rose from Republican exile to become one of the brightest stars of Mexico's Golden Age of cinema.

Born into a Republican family, Guiu fled to France after the Civil War, staying at the Argelès camp before settling in Mexico. Her career began almost by chance when director Jaime Salvador offered opportunities to Spanish immigrants, leading her to star in over fifty films.
She became a household name after starring in Angelitos Negros alongside Pedro Infante. Often cast as a femme fatale in movies like Pervertida or Pecadora, she managed to own her image and maintain professional independence until her retirement.

"The only love story I've had in cinema is with the audience."
