Born into a Republican family, Guiu fled to France after the Civil War, staying at the Argelès camp before settling in Mexico. Her career began almost by chance when director Jaime Salvador offered opportunities to Spanish immigrants, leading her to star in over fifty films.
She became a household name after starring in Angelitos Negros alongside Pedro Infante. Often cast as a femme fatale in movies like Pervertida or Pecadora, she managed to own her image and maintain professional independence until her retirement.
“"The only love story I've had in cinema is with the audience."
Despite her massive success abroad, she remains largely unknown in her hometown of Manresa. Critic Jordi Bordas notes that she was often misidentified as a foreign actress in Spanish film records. Guiu passed away in San Diego in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of resilience.
