The Republican leader, Oriol Junqueras, escalated his pressure strategy this Monday, demanding that the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Catalan Tax Agency (ATC), collect one hundred percent of the IRPF (Personal Income Tax) paid in the community.
Junqueras warned that, should an agreement not be reached on this matter, ERC will bring its own IRPF law to a vote in the Congress of Deputies during the «second half of February». This vote would serve to «demonstrate the extent of the Government's commitment».
“"They must enable a path to unblock this issue."
If the PSOE assists in processing the law, ERC commits to negotiating both the General State Budgets and the Generalitat's budgets. Should the law be rejected, the Republicans will not even sit down at the negotiation table, as IRPF collection was a commitment the socialists assumed in August 2024.
Regarding the new financing pact signed two weeks ago, Junqueras has cooled the possibility of calling a consultation among ERC members. He argues that the negotiation is complex and includes other issues, and that it would not be «effective» to be «holding consultations all day long».
