Around 400 people, called by a Citizen Platform, participated Monday evening in a slow march in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada to demand that the City Council halt the imminent implementation of the new door-to-door waste collection system.

The protest, which took place on Monday evening, started from the CAP (Primary Care Center) and toured the town center to the council building, where a manifesto was read. The demonstrators, carrying a banner with the slogan "no al porta a porta" (no to door-to-door), chanted slogans like "out, out" and "mayor resign" upon arriving at the City Council headquarters.
The Citizen Platform, which distances itself from any political party, criticizes the governing team (formed by Compromís amb Sant Joan and Alternativa per Sant Joan) for pushing the project forward without genuinely listening to the citizens. The manifesto expressed concern over rigid schedules, lack of space for bins, dirt, and the potential exposure of residents' private lives.

"The citizenry wants a practical, comfortable, more flexible system that adapts better to the needs of the residents."

The new waste collection model, scheduled for implementation the following Monday, was approved by the municipal plenary session in April 2024 with favorable votes from the governing parties, as well as Junts and ERC, while the PSC voted against it.
Despite the increase in protests, which include signature collection promoted by the PSC and the PP (which currently has no representation), the municipal government remains firm. The Councilor for Environment, Toni Dorado, recalled that the proposal has majority agreement from the plenary and that the contract with the implementing company is already signed.
