The city of Manresa has increased its security arrangements for Easter Week celebrations, deploying more officers from the Local Police and Mossos d'Esquadra, following recommendations from the Catalan Anti-Terrorist Coordination Cabinet.

This decision is part of a widespread reinforcement of security systems across Catalonia, agreed upon at the last meeting of the Catalan Anti-Terrorist Coordination Cabinet. The meeting, held last Tuesday and chaired by the Minister of Interior, Núria Parlon, emphasized the need to protect religious celebrations, public gatherings, and main transport hubs, given the anticipated increase in tourists and high public attendance during these days.
Specifically in the capital of Bages, the Manresa Local Police will add 10 officers to their usual deployment for the Manresa Procession. The Mossos d'Esquadra will also implement an operation adapted to the circumstances, though details of its scope have not been disclosed. This police reinforcement began last Palm Sunday, during the silent procession, with the aim of ensuring safety without disrupting participants.

"In the current belligerent scenario, security forces and bodies continue to be a potential target of interest for possible terrorist attacks."

The measure is not exclusive to Manresa but is being applied throughout the Catalan territory, adapting anti-terrorist prevention, protection, and response strategies to the new global context. During the cabinet meeting, which included the participation of the Director General of the Police, Josep Lluís Trapero, and the chief commissioner of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Miquel Esquius from Bages, it was highlighted that, in the current conflict scenario, security forces remain a potential target for attacks. Furthermore, exceptional reinforcement measures approved in October 2023, related to the interests of Israel and the Jewish community, remain active.
