The Fundació Althaia and the Catalan Health Department (Salut) will boost hospital care in the central regions in 2026 by introducing complex cardiology procedures at the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu in Manresa.

Hospital care will take a qualitative leap with the launch, by mid-2026, of new services in the Cardiology department of the Fundació Althaia. This includes high-complexity cardiovascular interventions, such as catheterizations, which will be performed at the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu.

"It is a transcendent step."

This new service, resulting from collaboration with the Hospital de Sant Pau de Barcelona, will save the transfer of more than 500 patients from Manresa and Berga who were referred to Barcelona during 2024 for these procedures. The project, budgeted at 2.5 million euros, was a long-standing aspiration of Althaia.
Another significant development planned for 2026 is the concentration of primary care pediatrics for the entire capital of Bages into a single unit. This measure, presented by the manager of the Central Catalonia Health Region, Toni Sánchez, primarily addresses the lack of pediatric specialists.
