The meeting served to renew the commitment of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) to the people of Ukraine, according to the nun. Minister Duch became directly involved in the purchase of sleeping bags designed for temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius, crucial material for the Ukrainian winter.
“"He wants to know about and accompany the work we are doing. It has been a heartfelt, very close meeting, and he has truly demonstrated a very real understanding and a great capacity for empathy."
This support will also be demonstrated by the presence of Minister Duch at the departure of the solidarity convoy, scheduled for next Friday, February 20. The initiative, promoted by the Santa Clara Convent Foundation, aims to deliver ambulances, 4x4 vehicles, defibrillators, and medical emergency backpacks to Ukraine.
The convoy will depart from the Sagrada Família square in Barcelona, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. Before starting the journey, the Cardinal of Barcelona, Joan Josep Omella, will perform a prayer and blessing of the vehicles.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Sister Lucía has undertaken more than 40 humanitarian trips, delivering various materials and field hospitals. Her work has been internationally recognized, receiving the Order of Princess Olga from the President of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, last November. She is also the author of the book Invitados a reconstruir: Ucrania, la guerra y la compasión and the documentary Ucrania, resistencia y esperanza.
