ADIF technicians have been working intensively at the Castellbell i el Vilar station to repair a retaining wall that has lost part of its stone protection. This action, which now includes the installation of a containment mesh, had been planned before the rains, but the worsening situation required taking advantage of the track closure to perform the work with more time and safety.
This repair is crucial to restoring normality between Manresa and Terrassa, a stretch that, along with the Vacarisses area, is traditionally prone to landslides on the R4 line. The Minister of Territori, Sílvia Paneque, confirmed that the alternative bus service between Manresa and Terrassa Nord will remain operational for the next few days.
“"We are much better, even if it seems the opposite. We have the foundations to finish quickly and as soon as possible."
The ADIF President, Pedro Marco de la Peña, assured that, despite the difficulties, they are facing the “beginning of the end” of the Rodalies disruption, thanks to the agreed protocol which requires the approval of train drivers before restoring service. In total, ADIF is acting at 26 points across Catalonia with 330 additional personnel.
The Renfe President, Álvaro Fernández Heredia, recalled that the final decision on service suspension corresponds to the service owner, the Generalitat. Both entities emphasized that the new safety protocol, which involves consulting with drivers, seeks to restore the “sense of security” following the accident at Gelida.
