The Rodalies de Catalunya rail network is undergoing urgent work to repair thirty critical points, causing cuts and alternative services on key lines like the R4 and R1 since early February 2026.

Initial inspections have identified at least thirty critical points requiring immediate action to ensure infrastructure safety. These works have forced the closure of about ten sections, which are currently covered by alternative bus services.
The R4 line, connecting Manresa with Terrassa, remains cut due to a landslide that requires the consolidation of a stone wall at the Castellbell i el Vilar station. This section has a history of serious incidents, including a fatal derailment in Vacarisses in 2018.
The R1, considered the line most vulnerable to climate change due to its proximity to the sea, has cuts between Blanes and Maçanet-Massanes. In Cabrera, an old bridge over the Argentona stream is being reinforced, a location where work was already carried out in 2021 to protect the tracks from wave impacts.

"We have a train that takes two and a half hours from here to Barcelona, just like in the 60s."

Francesc Lluch · Mayor of Sant Guim de Freixenet
Other lines such as the RL4 (Lleida-Terrassa) and the R15 (Riba-roja d'Ebre-Barcelona) are also suffering prolonged cuts. The R15 has been without trains between Riba-roja d'Ebre and Reus since January 26, leading to widespread complaints from mayors about historical underinvestment and the unreliability of alternative buses.

"We should be rewarded for using this sustainable collective transport, but instead, we are punished."
