This new initiative, called 'Viver', joins the existing 'Bosquet' project and is supported by the City Council's Climate Action and Environment department. According to sources from the organization, the goal is to have a space to store and care for a wide variety of native tree, shrub, and herbaceous species, ready to be planted in required areas of the town.
The nursery's debut will take place at 11:30 a.m. on February 15 next to Mas Llobet, one of the oldest farmhouses in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada currently undergoing rehabilitation. The cultivation process begins with collecting seeds from nearby forests, which are sown in domestic nurseries during the winter until the small seedlings sprout in the spring.
with native and, if possible, scarce species, to ensure biodiversity, a key element in the fight against the climate emergency.
Once the seedlings are about a year old, the following autumn, they are transplanted into suitable pots and remain in the nursery until the gardening technicians decide on their transfer. Species to be promoted include the Catalan holm oak, white maple, male dogwood, carob tree, linden, or flowering ash, in addition to shrubs like buckthorn and kermes oak. The inauguration will involve the participatory transplanting of the small seedlings, followed by a vermouth.
