Territory Department maintains C-16 tolls and rejects parity with C-32 despite Bages protests

The Department argues that there is no emergency road closure justifying exceptional measures, unlike the situation in Garraf.

The Department of Territory rejected the request by mayors and entities in Bages on February 2 to lift the C-16 tolls, arguing that the situation does not constitute an emergency.

The Department of Territory defends maintaining tolls on the C-16, separating its situation from that of the C-32 in Garraf. This stance follows demands from Bages mayors and civil entities to lift the barriers on the Terrassa-Manresa highway due to worsening communications caused by the Rodalies de Renfe crisis.

"We feel like second-class citizens, especially compared to the treatment received by the Garraf regions."

Joan Carles Batanés · Mayor of Sant Fruitós
Sources from the Department emphasize that the suspension of tolls on the C-32 occurred due to an emergency following the fatal accident in Gelida and the subsequent closure of the AP-7. Conversely, for the C-16, the ministry states that no road closure has occurred to justify adopting exceptional measures.
To alleviate the Rodalies problems, the ministry has reinforced interurban bus services and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) line. Furthermore, they warn that lifting barriers at the Vallvidrera tunnels would have a serious dissuasive impact on traffic flow in Barcelona.
Mayor Joan Carles Batanés, during the event held in Sant Fruitós, harshly criticized the position, demanding a rectification from Territori. The presented manifesto also calls upon the territorial delegate of the Government in Central Catalonia, Elia Tortolero, to defend the needs of the region.
