This initiative is part of the city's re-naturalization strategy, known as RENATUReus, which seeks better utilization of local water resources and the promotion of green infrastructure. The project, which promotes ecological agriculture and the creation of meeting spaces, is supported by the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, funded by NextGenerationEU.

The works, which began last April, involved an investment of 101,648.32 euros (VAT included). The infrastructure includes the capture of water from the mine, the channeling of a new network, and the construction of a building with an underground tank for water storage and treatment before use.
Diversifying supply sources is a key challenge for the city. Aigües de Reus already uses non-potable water, with full sanitary guarantees, for cleaning public roads and sewage systems, as well as for companies in the Agro-Reus and Tecnoparc industrial estates. Furthermore, since 2025, municipal swimming pools also use water not suitable for drinking, thanks to the network coming from the Fortuny neighborhood mine.
