Cambrils is preparing to celebrate the festival in honor of the Mare de Déu del Carme, the patron saint of fishermen, which will be held from July 11 to 19. The designed program concentrates the essence of the celebration over two consecutive weekends, combining tradition with dynamic activities.
The opening day, Saturday July 11, will begin at 7:00 PM at the Plaça Mossèn Joan Batalla with the 'Diada Castellera' (human tower display) by the Xiquets de Cambrils and invited group Castellers de Cerdanyola. In the evening, at 11:00 PM, the Parc del Pescador will host a free concert-party with the group Làctik and a DJ set.
The days from July 16 to 19 will be marked by the most traditional events. On Thursday July 16, the Patron Saint's day, after the official mass, the Plaça del Pòsit (7:30 PM) will feature a sardana performance by the Cobla Reus Jove. Later, at 9:30 PM, the Parc del Pescador will host the show "El ressò dels esquellots" by Teca Teatre, musically reviewing their history.
On Friday July 17, the Passeig de les Palmeres will host the traditional habaneras singing at 10:00 PM with groups Rom Cremat and Americanus. Attendees can enjoy 'rom cremat' (a local drink) offered by local fishermen for 2 euros.
The day of Saturday July 18 will start with a popular sardine tasting at the Llotja de Pescadors (5 euros per serving with drink) at 9:00 AM. In the afternoon, starting at 7:00 PM, the solemn procession by land and sea will take place, where the image of the Virgin will parade through the maritime neighborhood to the Moll de Ponent to receive the homage of the boats. Traditional fisherman attire is requested for participation.
Sunday July 19 will mark the end of the festivities with a concert by the group Criatures at the Parc del Pescador at 8:00 PM, as part of the Cap de Setmana Diatònic program.
