The Barcelona City Council handed over the keys this Tuesday to 17 affordable rental flats located at Carrer de l'Hospital, 116, in the Raval neighborhood. These homes, intended for individuals under 35, were allocated through a lottery among those registered in Barcelona's Official Protection Housing Applicant Registry (RSHPOB).
The Municipal Institute of Housing of Barcelona (IMHAB) carried out a comprehensive rehabilitation of the building, which had serious structural deficiencies when acquired by the council. The renovation transformed the property from 21 flats and one commercial space into 17 flats and one commercial space, preserving its original layout and improving its facilities.
The Commissioner for Housing, Joan Ramon Riera, congratulated the new residents, encouraging them to start an independent life project in the neighborhood. He emphasized that the rehabilitation is part of the municipal Pla Viure, aimed at improving the city's housing stock to ensure residents can remain in their neighborhoods.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for the Pact for Ciutat Vella, Ivan Pera, highlighted the initiative's importance in making Ciutat Vella a habitable territory with dignified, affordable, and accessible housing, particularly for young people.
The 17 flats include four loft-style units and 13 with two bedrooms. The monthly rent is set at 7.28 euros per square meter, with rents ranging from 153.61 to 463.74 euros, plus community fees of approximately 50 euros.
With this handover, a total of 2,285 keys have been delivered during this term in Barcelona, with 99 of them in the Ciutat Vella district. The council aims to deliver 3,000 keys by the end of its term and reach a public housing stock of 15,000 units by 2027.
