The Consell Executiu has given the green light to sign a protocol of intent to move forward with opening a Parador in the building on Rambla Nova in Tarragona. This initiative aims to expand the city's quality hotel offerings and showcase a unique architectural heritage building.
The Generalitat, the State, the Tarragona City Council, Turespaña, and Paradores will collaborate to bring this project to fruition. The goal is to enhance Tarragona's quality tourism and celebrate the city's historical and architectural heritage, integrating heritage, culture, and tourism activity.
The building, constructed in 1928, is notable for its architectural, aesthetic, and monumental value. Since 2010, it has been municipally owned and is listed as a local asset of cultural interest, designated for public use as cultural and administrative facilities.
The designation of the archaeological site of Tàrraco as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000 already boosted Tarragona's appeal as a tourist destination. Establishing a Parador is seen as crucial for attracting higher-value tourism, expanding quality hotel options, and strengthening the link between tourism and cultural heritage, while also generating economic activity and employment.
To oversee the project, a monitoring committee will be formed with representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, the Directorate General of Tourism of the Generalitat, the Tarragona City Council, Paradores de Turismo de España, and Turespaña. The Tarragona City Council will chair and provide secretariat services, with the committee meeting biannually.
