A man who faced a prison sentence for robbery with intimidation at a supermarket in Reus has ultimately been fined 360 euros for a minor theft offense.

The sentence from the Provincial Court of Tarragona, issued by the Fourth Section, significantly reduces the initial request for seven years in prison. The magistrates determined that it could not be proven during the trial that the accused used a sharp object to intimidate the security guard.
The events occurred on March 22 of last year, around 6:30 PM, at a supermarket located on Milans del Bosch street in Reus. The individual took several products, including canned goods and chocolates, and hid them under his jacket.
When attempting to leave the establishment without paying, he was intercepted by the security guard, who had observed the action via cameras. A struggle ensued between the two, during which the accused managed to escape with fifteen cans of white tuna, valued at 58 euros.

"It presents certain doubts about the reliability of the information he conveyed to us regarding how the events would have occurred."

The magistrates expressed doubts about the reliability of the security guard's statement, especially after reviewing the security camera footage. These images did not corroborate the guard's version regarding the accused's use of an object or the presence of other employees during the struggle, which took place outside the supermarket door.
The accused had a history of robbery with violence or intimidation, and robbery with force, with previous convictions dated January 16, 2025, June 3, 2022, and March 23, 2022.
