The Reus Housing Union (SHR) has called for a mobilization next Wednesday, January 28, at 8 AM, to try and halt the eviction of Jennifer, a victim of gender violence residing in the Casa dels Mestres public housing unit.

The eviction is the second order received by the tenant, who accessed the Casa dels Mestres flat in 2016 without being listed as the official assignee, as her former partner resided there. Guillem Jové, a representative of the SHR, confirmed that 24 entities have signed a rejection manifesto and that many neighbors support the cause.

"For the victim of gender violence to advance in her recovery process, she must be provided with a safe and stable flat; whether it is the one in Casa dels Mestres or any other location."

The situation of vulnerability worsened in 2021 when Jennifer reported her partner for assault, remaining alone in the home with a protection order. According to the union, the Reus City Council should have activated emergency rehousing, but the victim claims no protocol was activated, allowing a subsequent assault inside the home.

"The only mistake I made was pairing up with the wrong person."

From the SHR, Albert denounced that the council's only response has been for Jennifer to leave the flat, assuring that all negotiation attempts have been useless. The union accuses the City Council of failing to apply the feminist and housing rights policies it publicly defends, especially because the vulnerability report does not recognize gender violence as a risk factor.
