Núria Castán wins bronze at first FIS Freeride World Championships in Andorra

The athlete from Almoster secured third place in the Snowboard Freeride category after executing a fast and technical line.

Núria Castán, the rider from Almoster, secured the bronze medal at the inaugural FIS Freeride World Championships held in Andorra this Tuesday afternoon.

Núria Castán, who is part of the international Head Snowboards team and the national Freeride RFEDI-SpainSnow team, completed an outstanding performance on the legendary Basser Negre face (2,687 m). The competition started several hours late due to poor visibility but proceeded under good weather conditions once the sun appeared.

"Very happy to have finished third in the world, it means a lot to me and my heart is full in this new chapter. This result gives me strength to continue fighting in what remains of the Freeride World Tour season."

The Catalan athlete scored 79.00 points, placing her behind France's Noémie Equy (81.33) and America's Mia Jones (84.00), who was crowned champion. This event marks a historic day for freeride, being the first ever FIS Freeride World Championships, gathering 65 riders from 17 different countries.
The next major event for Castán is the third stop of the Freeride World Tour, which will take place in Georgia from February 22 to 28. She will then compete in Fieberbrunn, Austria, from March 5 to 10, before the potential finals in Alaska and Verbier, Switzerland.
