The 2026-2027 school year commenced today, Tuesday, September 8th, in the municipality's public educational centers, with the exception of the Mont-roig del Camp town, where classes will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9th, following the local festival of Mare de Déu de la Roca.
The total number of enrolled students reaches 1,883, an increase of 14 compared to the previous year. Of these, 118 infants attend municipal nurseries, 1,024 students are in early childhood and primary education, and 741 students are enrolled in secondary education. These figures are provisional and may change.
The educational offering at the Institut Antoni Ballester is strengthened with the introduction of the second year of the Intermediate Vocational Training Cycle (CFGM) in Administrative Management, thus completing the cycle's rollout and expanding training opportunities for the municipality's youth.
During the summer months, approximately 60 maintenance, repair, and improvement actions have been carried out in the educational centers, with an estimated investment of 39,919 euros. These tasks include painting, furniture and facility repairs, and upkeep of playgrounds and sports courts.
Additionally, larger-scale interventions have been undertaken. At the Escola Mare de Déu de la Roca, new shaded areas have been created, 28 trees planted, and the water system renovated. The Department of Education has improved the center's accessibility.
At the Escola Marcel·lí Esquius, new modules are being installed to expand the dining hall's capacity and provide more space. The Escola Joan Miró will have its pergola, damaged by storms, replaced.
The installation of solar panels at the Llar d’Infants Petete and the Escola Mare de Déu de la Roca, promoted by the Department of Environment, represents an investment of 112,000 euros to enhance the energy efficiency of these educational facilities.
In total, the quantified actions amount to 151,919 euros, including maintenance work and solar panel installation, excluding other municipal and Department of Education investments yet to be quantified.
