Mayor Sandra Guaita inaugurated the new climate shelter at the Pompeu Fabra school in Reus this Wednesday, a project funded by Next Generation grants to enhance urban resilience.

The renovation focused on replacing hard concrete surfaces with soft, draining materials such as sand and pine bark. This strategy aims to create cooler meeting and play areas, significantly improving the comfort of students during the warmer months of the year.
Key features of the project include a new pergola with integrated seating for outdoor lessons and the planting of 12 trees and 743 plants. These additions provide essential shade and natural discovery areas for children, alongside a new drinking water fountain.
This initiative is part of the first phase of the Reus Climate Shelter Plan, which covers four local schools. The contract was carried out by M. I. J Grusa SA with a total budget of 1,027,643.31 euros, including VAT.
