Mayor Sandra Guaita led the cauldron lighting ceremony this Tuesday at the Pavelló Olímpic Municipal in Reus, marking the start of the 44th School Olympics with 2,000 young athletes.

The Olympic torch traveled through the streets of Reus starting from the Palau Municipal. The opening ceremony featured institutional speeches by Enrique Martín, Councilor for Health and Sports, and Gemma Balanyà, president of the Baix Camp Sports Council.
Team captains Paula Pérez, Natàlia Rojas, and Laia Batista delivered the opening proclamation, celebrating the city's status as the Catalan Capital of Women's Basketball. Arlet Inglés Mena was also recognized for designing the winning event poster.
The competition runs from March 2 to March 20, 2026, featuring twelve sports including swimming, chess, and football. Events will take place at venues such as Reus Deportiu and Club Natació Reus Ploms, emphasizing fair play through the Green Card initiative.
