For the second consecutive summer, the facilities will utilize non-potable water resources thanks to the distribution network launched last year. This water has already been used to fill the pools and will also be employed during the season to compensate for losses due to evaporation and maintenance. Furthermore, the network supplies several green spaces in the city, such as Parc dels Capellans and the garden areas of the pools themselves.
Once the swimming season concludes, the pool water will be directed to recharge the aquifer linked to the Fortuny mine system, thus preventing its discharge into the sewage network, as reported by the city council.
“"To maximize the use of water resources in the area, employing them with the necessary and sufficient quality for each purpose."
“"The municipal pools are a climate refuge for citizens, and this approach allows us to maintain the service while reducing potable water consumption."
The use of non-potable water in Reus is not limited to the pools. Currently, it is also used for services such as street and sewage cleaning, and for industrial uses in the Agro-Reus industrial estate, through a network parallel to the drinking water supply. Aigües de Reus plans to complete a treatment plant this year to make some of this water potable and incorporate it into the city's supply system if necessary.
