The Commercial Court number 1 of Tarragona has cleared a 268,510.61 euro debt for a Reus resident who fell into severe insolvency following an extremely difficult divorce process.

The ruling applies the Second Chance Law to release the individual from unsustainable financial burdens. According to Bergadà Abogados, the crisis began in 2016 when his ex-wife moved to Argentina with their daughters and failed to return, triggering a severe depression.
This emotional state led to the non-payment of mortgage installments and community fees. Despite attempts to restructure the debt with the bank, the request was denied. The situation worsened in 2018 when he lost his job, leading to further debts with public institutions and local creditors.

"The Second Chance Law exists to protect good faith debtors who, due to circumstances beyond their control, find themselves in a situation they could never have imagined."
