The Reus City Council has announced the temporary closure of the Fortuny Theatre this February after identifying significant electrical and fire safety deficiencies in the 150-year-old venue.

The decision was made unanimously by the Fortuny Theatre Consortium, which includes the local government and the Tarragona Provincial Council. Mayor Sandra Guaita stated that the closure follows a comprehensive maintenance plan launched last year.

"It was not an imminent risk to anyone, but we prioritize safety over economic benefit."

Repairs will focus on the electrical grid and fire suppression valves. Scheduled performances for the remainder of the month have been relocated to other venues across Reus to ensure the cultural agenda continues.
