The city of Reus is preparing to unveil a large mural dedicated to Antoni Gaudí, an artwork by Jonathan Carranza 'Sojo' that will incorporate augmented reality and become a highlight of the Gaudí Year.

The project, with a budget of 60,000 euros, will be located on a 150-square-meter wall of the university residence of the Parròquia de Sant Joan Baptista, directly opposite the Mercat Central. This central and highly visible location, where the street market is held on Mondays and Saturdays, aims to maximize the initiative's impact.
Following a selection process among 25 candidates, the commission has been awarded to the Extremaduran muralist Jonathan Carranza, artistically known as Sojo. His background as an architect was a decisive factor, considered an ideal quality for visually interpreting Gaudí's universe.

"Now it's time to sit in the studio and make sense of them. My aspiration is for the work to be well-received by the city."

The project will unfold in two phases. The first, the pictorial execution of the mural, will take place during May 2026. The second phase, technological and informative, will be led by digital artist Gala Mirissa, who will add an augmented reality layer to the artwork, accessible via a QR code.
In addition to the mural, the Gaudí Year in Reus also includes the inauguration of a sculpture dedicated to the architect, created by Joan Serramià, which could also be unveiled in late May. This sculpture was made possible through the mediation of Joan Planellas, who facilitated the acquisition of stone from the Sagrada Família.

"Reus left a mark on Gaudí that deserves to be made visible. We have a historical debt to his figure."

Sandra Guaita · Mayor of Reus
The mayor of Reus, Sandra Guaita, has framed the project within a 'whirlwind of activities' promoted during the Gaudí Year, with the participation of over 40 entities. The president of the Diputació de Tarragona, Noemí Llauradó, highlighted the mural's strategic location to attract new audiences, especially young people, thanks to the language of urban art and the artist's profile.
