The Roseta Mauri Institute in Reus has become the first secondary school in Catalonia to reinstate its dining hall service combined with recreational and educational reinforcement activities, presented on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Currently, most secondary schools do not offer this service. The proposal at Roseta Mauri not only provides lunch but is integrated into the Pla Educatiu d'Entorn (Local Educational Plan), benefiting 25 students from the first and second years of ESO, guaranteeing them a hot and balanced meal.
Activities take place from Monday to Thursday and include sports sessions for small groups. Additionally, on Mondays and Wednesdays, educational support workshops are held, focusing on study techniques and assistance in more difficult subjects.
“
"being the first city in Catalonia to recover the dining hall service in a secondary school fills us with pride and is the result of this municipal government's commitment to education as a tool to work towards equity and social cohesion."
Another key initiative is the “game godparents” program, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This activity aims to promote the oral use of Catalan in social and recreational settings, thereby improving the participants' linguistic competence.
“
"it is a positive measure in terms of equity and health, aimed at achieving a healthy and full-time school schedule. This policy promotes social and emotional competencies, fosters coexistence and social cohesion, and helps prevent school dropout."
The main objective of the reopening is to promote equity and health, as it allows vulnerable students to access a meal they otherwise could not obtain through grants. It also seeks to promote healthy habits and social cohesion, as highlighted by the President of the Baix Camp County Council, Joan Josep Garcia.
