The Reus City Council has positively assessed the first quarter of the pilot program Reus es Mou, a free physical activity initiative that has exceeded participation expectations in the city's parks.

Since its launch, areas like the Mas Iglesias Park or the Garcia Lorca Park have been transformed into outdoor exercise spaces. The Councilor for Health and Sports, Enrique Martín, highlighted that the project is working “very well” with higher attendance than anticipated.

"One of the objectives was to reach people who do not practice regulated sports, and the response is being very positive."

This initiative not only fights sedentary lifestyles but has also become a tool to address unwanted loneliness, generating bonds among participants. Mas Iglesias Park, in particular, has become a reference point attracting residents from other neighborhoods in Reus.

"Currently, the group is about 50 or 60 people, and you just have to hear them talk when they finish about how happy they are."

Òscar Mendoza · President of the Mas Iglesias Park Defense Neighborhood Association
The program, launched as a pilot test, will run parallel to the school year until June. Martín indicated that the pilot phase will allow analysis of locations with less success in order to enhance or adapt them in the future.
