The Fire Department received the alarm shortly after 11:00 AM, alerted by a neighbor, as the farm, apparently owned by two brothers, was empty at the time. Access was complicated because the facility is located in an area away from main roads, next to the Burgar ravine.
The main goal of the extinction teams was to sectorize the fire and prevent it from spreading to the cage area. The flames primarily affected machinery and straw, causing a large column of black smoke visible in the initial moments of the incident.
The fire was declared stabilized at 12:19 PM and controlled at 1:22 PM. Although the smoke broke the roof of the warehouse, the rapid action of the Fire Department was crucial to ensure that the flames did not reach the area housing the 10,000 rabbits.
Personnel from the Municipal Guards of La Selva del Camp, a patrol of the Rural Agents Corps, and the Mossos d'Esquadra also traveled to the scene. A unit from the Reus Fire Station remained at the farm until mid-afternoon to soak and remove the smoking straw with the help of a mechanical loader.
