The incidents, which also involve a 20-year-old woman under investigation, took place in the Gaudí neighborhood of Reus between September 7 and October 20. The detainees are accused of public disorder and assault on authority figures, according to the Catalan police.
All false alerts were made in the evening or during night and early morning hours, requesting urgent intervention at various points in the same neighborhood.
The calls simulated assaults, fights, fires, squatting, and even a case of gender violence, with the sole purpose of luring patrols from the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guàrdia Urbana. Upon arrival, officers were met with a barrage of objects, including eggs, stones, and high-powered firecrackers.
Among the most notable episodes was the throwing of half a dozen eggs on October 8 during a false squatting alert, and the impact of a powerful firecracker against the windshield of a police vehicle on Avenida Barcelona, also on October 8, while responding to a simulated domestic violence case.
The Mossos investigation linked these events to three previous incidents that occurred in May and February, where patrols had also been targeted with thrown objects. The two arrested individuals, who already had previous records for property crimes, were released with charges a few hours after their detention, obligated to appear before a judge when required.
