The Reus City Council has announced the presentation of the Knowledge Award to doctor Joan Borràs, recognizing his career as an oncologist, researcher, and promoter of the oncology service at Hospital Sant Joan since 1979.

The consolidation of the healthcare system in Reus since the beginning of municipal democracy in 1979, especially around Hospital Sant Joan, is considered one of the most successful local battles. This political and professional vision allowed the hospital to become a basic component of the system in Camp de Tarragona.
Doctor Borràs was a key figure in this process, promoting the oncology service which, over time, has become a clear reference for the treatment of this disease in southern Catalonia, including the fight for the Faculty of Medicine.

Doctor Borràs has done much more than his professional obligation required, such as the creation and direction of the League Against Cancer of the Regions of Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre.

In addition to his hospital and teaching work, doctor Borràs founded and directed the League Against Cancer of the Regions of Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre, an entity that has provided essential support to cancer patients in the area, adapting to the country's new social reality.
With a discreet but effective public profile, doctor Borràs has focused his efforts on generating cohesive teams and advancing healthcare, both at the hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, demonstrating the value of a city that recognizes professional excellence.
