The Yellowhammer is a resident bird species occupying much of Catalonia's territory, being particularly common in the Camp de Tarragona region due to its high environmental adaptability.

The male Yellowhammer is characterized by its reddish-brown back and grayish chest with reddish sides. Its head is dark, highlighted by two large horizontal yellow stripes. The female exhibits a similar pattern, but with all colors duller and less contrasted, predominantly featuring brown and pale yellow tones.
This species resides in Catalonia throughout the year, although it may undertake small winter movements in search of warmer areas. It is quite common, occupying a large part of the territory. In the Camp de Tarragona, it can be found almost everywhere, from forests with clearings to agricultural areas or open fields with scattered trees, and occasionally, even in urban parks.
The presence of woods or numerous trees is essential for its location. Experts suggest utilizing its characteristic song to detect them. Its main diet consists of seeds from different plant species, which they forage for on the ground. However, during the breeding season, their diet shifts to invertebrates, which provide the necessary protein for the growth of their chicks.
