The Tarragona Water Consortium (CAT) has opened the tender process for the construction of a second untreated water reservoir at the Water Treatment Plant (ETAP) in L'Ampolla, in the Baix Ebre region.

The new infrastructure will have a storage capacity of 185,000 m³, exceeding the current reservoir integrated into the plant by 10,000 m³. This construction will be located on an adjacent plot of 27,000 m² and will be an uncovered trapezoidal structure with reinforced concrete walls between 5 and 7 meters high.
The design will allow the new reservoir to operate independently or simultaneously with the original, thus ensuring the continuity of the water treatment process even during maintenance tasks or shutdowns of one of the reservoirs.
With this expansion, the Consortium will be able to have a total of 360,000 m³ of untreated water in L'Ampolla. This additional capacity would allow guaranteeing supply to its consortium members for approximately two days – one during the summer period – in case of incidents in the river or at the intake facilities, thus doubling the current response capacity.
The construction works must be completed within a maximum of 18 months. Offers can be submitted until June 26, 2026, at 13:00. The maximum contract budget amounts to €16,307,704.42 (VAT included).
The financing will primarily come from a credit agreement signed with the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) in February, while the remaining cost will be directly borne by the Consortium using resources from its Investment Plan.
In parallel, a public tender has been launched for the technical assistance service for the supervision of the work, valued at €302,453.06 (VAT included). This contract is divided into two lots: one for issues directly related to the construction of the new reservoir, such as facility design, feasibility studies, and site monitoring; and a second lot for technical assistance in quality control of the work. Offers for this service can also be submitted until June 26 at 13:00.
