The Catedral-Basílica de Santa Maria de Tortosa has incorporated four new members into its Chapter in a ceremony held on May 31st, coinciding with the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

The inauguration ceremony took place during Vespers and was presided over by the bishop of Tortosa. With this addition, the Cathedral Chapter expands its representation to fourteen members, strengthening its work in pastoral life and the preservation of the city's spiritual heritage.
The day also served to celebrate the appointment of another Chapter member as Chaplain of His Holiness. The ceremony began in the chapter house, where the new members received the statutes and internal regulations of the institution before making their profession of faith and oath of fidelity at the high altar.

"The Chapter is not a decorative honorific or a merely protocolary distinction. It is an ecclesial service."

During his address, the bishop highlighted that the mission of the canons is summarized in three fundamental pillars: worship, culture, and charity. For their part, the Chapter representatives emphasized the history of the institution, describing it as the oldest in the Terres de l'Ebre region and a living testimony of faith throughout the centuries.
The liturgical act concluded at the Royal Chapel of the Cinta, where a prayer was held before the relic of the Virgin, followed by a gathering in the cathedral cloister with the participation of seminarians, priests, and the faithful of the diocese.
