L'Ametlla de Mar celebrates the Candelaria 2026 Major Festival with a program full of tradition

The festivities, held from January 31 to February 4, will feature the opening speech delivered by the Associació de Dones Endavant.

The town of L'Ametlla de Mar hosts its Major Festival in honor of the Mare de Déu de la Candelera from January 31 to February 4, featuring an extensive program of cultural and traditional events.

The official start of the festivities will take place on Saturday with the opening speech (pregó), preceded by a parade with the 'capgrossos' (big-heads) and the brass band Suquet Calero. The central event will be the institutional reception for the proclaiming entity, the Associació de Dones Endavant, led by its president, Cinta Garcia Martí.
During the Candelera 2026 speech, the official proclamation of the 'pubilles' and 'hereus' (local representatives), both adult and children, will be held, along with the Quintos and Quintes del 2026, who will play a prominent role in the festive acts and the procession.
The highlight of the celebration will be on Monday, the day of the Patron Saint. Events include the Floral Offering to the Mare de Déu de la Candelera and the Major Mass, which will be presided over by the Bishop of Urgell, Josep Lluís Serrano Pentinat, and concelebrated by the local rector.
At noon, the traditional Ball de la Candela (Candle Dance) and the Festa del Vermut will take place. In the evening, the solemn procession will see the image of the patron saint carried by the Quintos and Quintes del 2026. The Major Festival will conclude on Wednesday with the Festa dels Jubilats (Seniors' Festival) and a large fireworks display at the Passeig Marítim and Plaça Joan Miró.
The program also includes relevant sports activities, such as the 10th Josep Pallarés Memorial football match, the Trofeu Candelera 2026, and the final of the V Trofeu Candelera de Morra, completing the recreational offerings.
