The Oikia project is a preventive service aimed at covering basic needs such as food, hygiene, and psychosocial-emotional stimulation, while also combating socioeconomic and energy vulnerability for children aged 0 to 8 and their families. It provides a safe space with two daily meals (snack and dinner), an educational play area, and hot showers.
“"The difficult situation many families in our city are experiencing is demonstrated by the figures from the Oikia project in 2025, as 3,598 daily meals prepared with fresh, seasonal produce were provided, 1,677 hot showers were given, thus helping with families' energy vulnerability issues, and a total of 371 laundry cycles were performed."
Salvador Olivé, president of the Rotary Club Tortosa, emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that the funds raised will also be used to educate families on sustainability and energy efficiency through workshops. Furthermore, the project aims to provide parental skill tools and strategies for proper child care.
The initiative is designed to benefit 35 children aged 0 to 8 and 16 families in situations of social vulnerability. The Red Cross volunteer team plays a crucial role in developing these activities. Registrations for the charity dinner, priced at 50 euros including dinner and donation, are now open via ebreticket.cat. A 'zero row' option is also available for those who wish to contribute without attending, with donations accepted via the club's bank account.
During the dinner, various raffles will be held thanks to donations from local businesses and shops. Local Rotary clubs, such as the one in Tortosa, are complemented by Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation, which coordinate and fund humanitarian and community service projects globally.
