Artist Anna Amaré has launched the educational and artistic project 'Dona Essència' in Tortosa to connect youth from the Terres de l'Ebre with the voices of women silenced throughout history.

The Dona Essència project, conceived two decades ago by the Ebre artist Anna Amaré, has been relaunched in Tortosa with an expanded social focus. The multidisciplinary proposal combines music, visual arts, body movement, and education to generate spaces for critical reflection and give voice to women silenced by history.

"Culture must reach everyone, and bringing it closer through the educational sphere is a priority. This project creates a perfect symbiosis between culture, education, and territory."

The initiative involves educational centers across the four counties of the Ebre region, including the Geroni de Moragas de Móra d’Ebre center. Students work with the biographies and songs of twelve international female singers, with Anna Amaré acting as the thirteenth voice, incorporating a piece by Josep Bo.
Amaré explained that the original idea was born from the desire to combine the history of modern music, rooted in African American blues, with processes of social transformation. The relaunch was made possible thanks to institutional support and ADEDE (Association of Businesswomen and Executives of the Ebre). The final show, which will be neither a conventional musical nor a concert, will premiere in Tortosa at the end of June.
