The central event will be the Lighting of Towers, Watchtowers, and Talayots of the Mediterranean for Human Rights, an initiative coordinated in Catalonia through the Institut Ramon Muntaner (IRMU). This day, promoted from Mallorca in 2016, seeks to raise awareness about the migration crisis in the Mediterranean and reclaim fortified heritage.
“"In Tortosa, once again, the Célio tower, in Remolins, will be lit. But in our municipality, the Campredó tower will also be lit, and for example, in Amposta, the same will be done with the Carrova tower."
Mayor Mar Lleixà and Councilor Pilar Caballé confirmed that the lighting of the Célio tower, in Remolins, will take place starting at 6:15 PM in the Plaça de Menahem Ben Saruq. The event will include a children's fire display and the lighting of the Torreta, led by the Colla de Diables i Tambors Lo Golafre. Members of the Remolins Neighborhood Association will be responsible for reading the manifesto.
The program will be completed with a concert by the singer-songwriter Èric Vinaixa at 7:30 PM in the didactic classroom of the Tortosa Museum. The show will be dedicated to the figure of the poet, teacher, and anarchist from Miravet, Roc Llop i Convalia, within the framework of the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.
“"Roc Llop was an anarchist, teacher, poet, exile, and survivor of the Nazi concentration camps, specifically Mauthausen."
Councilor Pilar Caballé also announced other key dates in the Democratic Memory program for 2026, including events for International Women's Day (March 8), the commemoration of the fascist bombings (April 15), and the start of the Battle of the Ebro (July 24 and 25).
