The Tortosa City Council, led by Mayor Mar Lleixà, has unveiled the 2026 Carnival events, starting on Thursday, February 12, with the traditional Fat Thursday celebration at the Mig Camí Hermitage.

The starting signal for the Carnival will be Fat Thursday (Dijous Llarder), held on February 12 starting at five in the afternoon at the Ermita de Mig Camí with a popular 'baldanada' (sausage feast). As a consolidated feature, the event will guarantee options suitable for celiac people, offering gluten-free bread and sausage, as well as cakes prepared without risk of cross-contamination, thanks to the agreement with the Associació de Celíacs de Catalunya.
The program was presented by Mayor Mar Lleixà and the Councillor for Festivities, Jordi Jordan, along with neighborhood representatives Sergi Andreu (Ferreries-Sant Vicent) and Enriqueta Blanch (Santa Clara).

"I want to thank the involvement of the neighborhood entities and collaborators, who make the celebration of these traditional events possible, and I encourage the public to participate."

The events will continue on Saturday, February 14, with the Ferreries-Sant Vicent Carnival. The concentration of costumes and troupes will begin at five in the afternoon at the Rambla de Catalunya, in front of Casa Camós, culminating at the Jordi Angelats Sports Pavilion. Over 1,000 euros in prizes will be awarded there for the best costumes, along with a children's hot chocolate party. Furthermore, in the morning, Carrer Alfara de Carles will host a Solidarity Valentine's Day party benefiting the League Against Cancer.
The festive week will conclude on Tuesday, February 17, with the Burial of the Sardine in the Santa Clara neighborhood. Starting at eight in the evening, at the old Calvari, roasted sardines and artichokes will be distributed among attendees.
